On rare, unpredictable occasions the Palalo worms hatch in the waters of the Florida Keys. When they do, the Tarpon supposedly go absolutely nuts eating them. I've never been lucky enough to be there for a hatch, but I keep a couple of these in my box - hoping.

I no longer cover the whole shank of the hook with thread because many people like to snell their flies to the shock tippet and need a bare surface to do it.

This fly was developed by the legendary Stu Apte. Lefty Kreh says it is a pattern that every tarpon flyfisher should have with them. I don't know about you, but I listen to what Lefty says.

I have had incredible luck on this fly in low light conditions - dawn, dusk, and on overcast days. If I'm fishing under those conditions, this fly is at the end of my shock tippet.
